It's been many many years since I've used Winamp but I'm trying to get back into it as I look forward to launching my internet radio show.
I feel a bit like an old fart who's been passed up by a raging river of technical improvements however. Therefore, please excuse what might be stupid questions. Here they are nonetheless.
I've looked at the help files and shortcut keys for Winamp 5.63 which is the version I'm using. They don't seem to work however. For example, If I'm in the playlist editor, control N does absolutely nothing. Tabbing around does nothing either. The same is true for the applications key. I don't see anything in the menues for creating a new playlist.
Are there scripts for Jaws I need to get? I don't remember Winamp being this difficult to use in the past so I have to be missing something.
I'm using Jaws 14, Winamp 5.623 and Windows 7 on the computer from which I will run the show. Any help would be much appreciated.
Quite obviously, I've got the mouth for the microphone but not the brains to run the show. lol
Your problem is that you are useing Winamp 5. upgrade to the latest version and your issue should be fixed.
John
Nope, 5.623 seems to be the latest from what I can tell.
I figured it out though. Duh, silly me. The jaws key W is a beautiful tool.
lol. well glad to hear it.
I love Winamp. Biggest piece of advice I have for you though, use the classic skin. It seems like JAWS really doesn't like the modern skins, unless things have really changed.
Good point. That could be your problem.
turn off the Visualizations... in fact if nobody else is useing your PC, dont even instal the other skins or Visualizations.
I'm using classic. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Winamp Pro.
Yes to support them. No, unless you are burning DC's and some other things that aren't really accessible.
You do get a few things however.
One that might be useful is to run Winamp twice. One for your show and one so you can monitor it or record it to see how you did.
You dont need to go pro to run two instances of Winamp.
And no, there's no reason to go Winamp pro.
definitely don't go winamp pro if you can't even get the standard version to work correctly. I would recommend during set up to only use the classic skins for winamp. One computer I had would never accept the keystrokes of jaws to control the volume or the play stop forward backward functions, etc. Hopefully installing the classic skins during set up should help fix the problem and download directly from the winamp site to get the latest version.
